Whether in Thailand or Vietnam, the Red Lotus season is a magical natural phenomenon you won’t want to miss.
The Red Lotus Lake (Talay Bua Daeng) is one of Thailand’s most breathtaking natural attractions, located in Udon Thani Province in the country’s northeast.
During peak season, millions of vibrant pink lotus flowers bloom across the water, creating a stunning “pink carpet” that stretches as far as the eye can see.
The best way to experience this incredible sight is by taking a small boat tour through the lotus fields. Boats typically depart from Ban Diam Pier, with trips lasting between 45 and 90 minutes. Part of Nong Han Lake, around 40 km east of Udon Thani city, this is one of the largest and most spectacular lotus lakes in the world—and a must-visit destination for nature lovers, photographers, and travellers exploring Thailand. The best time to visit Talay Bua Daeng is between November and February, when the blooms are at their peak and the lake is at its most vibrant.
If you miss the season in Thailand, don’t worry—you can still witness a similar experience in Vietnam.
Head to the Mekong Delta, particularly Moc Hoa in Long An Province, where water lilies are harvested from August to November, offering another unique and beautiful cultural experience.
