BANGKOK DISASTER ZONE
Bangkok’s governor declared Thailand’s capital city a disaster-affected zone on September 26, 2026 – after torrential rain led to widespread flooding.
Nearly 300 millimetres of rain fell within 48 hours.
Major roads were flooded, with cars partly submerged, and people forced to wade through waist-high water. The situation was most severe near canals. Even Don Muang airport was flooded across the tarmacs.
Although not all parts of Bangkok were submerged, the city declared all 50 districts a flood disaster area to help authorities respond quickly. More than 200 shelters were set up across the city to assist thousands of people.
Meanwhile, the coastal city of Pattaya, 1.5 hours drive from Bangkok, placed nine flood-prone areas under 24-hour surveillance as the city battled heavy rain and flash floods. Popular tourist areas were inundated.
One man believed to be a foreigner went missing after his group fell into a canal while they were wading through a flooded alley.
